The woman who put the stag on the Stanley shield
Joan de Baumville's marriage to William de Stanley in 1282 brought Storeton and the hereditary forestership of Wirral into the cadet. The coat — argent, on a bend azure three stags' heads caboshed or — is born in her woodland, granted as a distinct coat in 1316.
She does not carry the 1313 Audley writ. She carries the other child of Aldithley into colour: greenwood, horn, stag.

Forest-green velvet riding gown, auburn hair, silver hunting horn, stag-head brooch, leather riding boots, a hawk on the glove. The three golden stags are her job of work before they are anyone's coat of arms.
