James City grant from Charles I
Samuel Snead arrived in Virginia in 1635 with his wife, his son William, and a servant, Thomas Vincent. Charles I’s government granted two hundred and fifty acres in James City. Later patents renew the land in the widow’s name.
He is the founder of the Virginia Sneads. Stafford County in later Snead deeds is Stafford County, Virginia — not Staffordshire, England. The name is the bridge. The two Staffords are not one place.
